65,000 people sign #jackspetition on Day 1 – please keep sharing!

Today I launched a petition, #jackspetition – calling for a debate in Parliament about the rise in the use of food banks in the UK.

When I spoke at Tory Party conference earlier this year, several senior Tories (who I will spare the embarrassment of ‘calling them out’ by naming them) agreed with me that we needed an inquiry into food bank use in the UK.

Several months later, nothing seems to have been done about it. It seems the old adage is true – if you want something done, you should probably do it yourself.

Backed by the Daily Mirror, Trussell Trust, and Unite, the petition went live today, and in the first 24 hours, over 65,000 people have signed it.

The response has been incredible – but this isn’t a one day push. I’m going to keep sharing this petition and campaigning until its taken up as a debate in Parliament – because MPs have ignored this issue for far too long, or tried to pretend that it doesn’t exist, or let charities and volunteers pick up the pieces.

So please – carry on signing and sharing #jackspetition – it’s clear from today’s response that I’m not the only person who thinks this is a disgrace and wants some answers.

Please sign at www.change.org/foodbanks – it takes less than a minute. Thankyou.

With thanks to Ros Wynne-Jones, the Daily Mirror, the Trussell Trust, Unite and Change.org.

  1. Total respect from me to you Jack.

I’ve gladly signed your petition as I believe the increasing referrals to food banks is a national disgrace.

I agree if you want something done then do it yourself.

Politicians will often nod, agree and say something needs to be done then nothing happens!

I’ve also signed this petition that demands a “None of the Above” option on ballot papers. You may be interested?

Politicians are paid from Public Funds to supposedly to serve their country and population. I don’t see much evidence that the majority of them are doing that.

They seem to be serving themselves!
