MAKE-ME-BETTER MORNING MUG

Scratchy throat, simultaneous blocked and runny nose, muggy head, general air of malaise? Yeah, that was me this morning… So in a bid to banish the heavy cold feeling, I knocked up a large jug of this stuff – and by golly, it worked a treat. If you have an office job, take it to work in a Thermos flask or similar, and sip it at your desk to banish the blues.

Makes 1l jug – drink the lot!!

1 lemon, quartered and diced
1/2 an inch of fresh stem ginger
Scant 1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tbsp runny honey

Quarter and dice the lemon and toss into the bottom of the jug. Finely chop the ginger, and add with the turmeric and honey. Pour over half the boiling water and stir well, and top up with the rest of the water. Strain into a mug to drink.

I kept topping mine up with more boiling water, and adding extra turmeric and honey, all day. I felt much better for it!

  1. Could’ve done with this last week! Oh well, Lemsip from Home Bargains did the job, along with extra paracetamol and my favourite cough syrup (Nin Jiom from the Chinese supermarket).

  2. Loving this! Hoping to banish the cold I have been nursing for the best part of a week! Thanks Jack!

  3. I also keep a mug of fresh lemon, ginger root and (when I can get it) fresh tumeric root on the go all day – it is so zingy and refreshing. I am sure all the vitamins have kept me relatively cold-free this year

  4. Drinking my way through a big jug of this right now. Feeling better than I have in almost a week.

  5. I do something similar but grate the ginger in and use cayenne instead of turmeric. Works a treat!

  6. if you can afford it, manuka honey is the best to aid recovery in this, Aldi sometimes sell it cheap 🙂

  7. Turmeric is magical and healing! The other ingredients are so cleansing, too. Thanks for this! Cheers from the U.S. — just read about you in HELLO! online.

  8. I’ve just made your feisty soup, which is wonderful, followed by your power muffins and reading about your spring planting. It has gone a long way to help me recover from my mum-flu! Going to make this drink next. Thanks for all you do. Xx
